Helen Dagny (Stenberg) Vehrs, 79
October 26, 2009 6:10 a.m.

Helen Dagny (Stenberg) Vehrs, 79

Helen Dagny (Stenberg) Vehrs, 79, of Missoula, died peacefully at home in Missoula on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009. She was born June 24, 1930, in Mankato, Minn., to Sigval and Ragna (Thorson) Stenberg. She grew up on the family farm near Amboy, Minn., where she attended grades one through eight in a one-room schoolhouse in the country. Helen graduated from St. Olaf College with a degree in teaching and moved to Missoula, where she worked for Missoula County High School as a librarian and English teacher. After a three-month courtship, she married Carson H. Vehrs Jr. on Dec. 29, 1955. The couple lived in Missoula while Carson finished college and then moved to Oregon, where Carson worked in the food service department first at Lewis & Clark College and then at Southern Oregon College. Mom found great pleasure in creating beautiful gardens and homes wherever the family lived. They moved back to Missoula in 1969 when Carson became director of food services for the University of Montana and then later opened Vehrs Wine Imports. After raising her family, Helen worked as a records clerk at Sentinel High School for 18 years and retired in 1997. She was a devoted mother who embraced the role of soccer mom before the term existed, bravely shuttling her kids and their friends to and from games, swimming pools and parks in the old Pontiac station wagon. Driving was not a favorite activity for Helen, but with her strong character and love for her children, she always managed to get the gang to where they needed to be. Helen showed an intense interest in all people she met. Her fantastic dry wit and sense of humor entertained generations of friends and family. More than anything, she loved sitting in her living room chair and discussing the politics and issues of the day. Even during the last few weeks of her life, she continued to make us laugh until we cried saying such things as, This air bed is like sleeping on a plowed field. She was very community-oriented and volunteered several places, including Fort Missoula, the writing center at Hellgate High School, the Missoula County Court House and Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she folded bulletins for many years. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 52 years. Helen is survived by daughter Teresa Vore and her husband John Vore, and granddaughter Callie Morris, of Kalispell; son John Vehrs and his wife Brenda Vehrs, and grandson Grant Vehrs, of Great Falls; and son Richard Vehrs and his wife Renee, and grandson Justin and his wife Kristen, and great-granddaughter Kylee. A celebration of Helen s life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Missoula. A reception will be held immediately following the service in the same location. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Missoula, 800 Kensington Ave., Missoula, MT 59801, or to a charity of your choice. Cremation services are entrusted to the care and direction of Brothers Mortuary and Crematory in Hamilton. Condolences and memories may be e-mailed to brothersR@msn.com.

Ryke Erekson, 56
October 25, 2009 6:10 a.m.

Ryke Erekson, 56

Ryke Erekson, 56, passed away suddenly at home in Kalispell on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, from complications of renal disease. Ryke was born Jan. 14, 1953, to Charles and Allana Erekson in Sacramento, Calif. The family moved to Wyoming and then to Whitefish when Ryke was 10 years old. He attended Whitefish schools and graduated high school in 1971. He spent a few years driving truck with his father and working oil rigs in Wyoming. In 1979 he went to work in Olney at American Timber and continued until the business closed in 2000. Ryke took the opportunity to fulfill a dream of a college education and went on to receive an Associate of Applied Sciences degree in Web and technology design from Flathead Valley Community College in 2004. He was working as a forklift operator when he suffered kidney failure in 2006. Ryke loved anything that flies, especially birds of prey and World War II military aircraft. He loved photography and was rarely without his cameras and tripod. He was fortunate to go to the 24 Hours at Le Mans race in France to photograph another love, Porsche racing cars. In 1980, he even traveled to his mecca and toured the Porsche factory in Stuttgart, Germany. He was sorely disappointed to find that free samples were not part of the admission price. He was a dedicated San Francisco 49ers fan. He claimed it was genetic! He claimed they would be back; it s just a rebuilding year. One of his favorite and most memorable gifts was the surprise rental of a Porsche from his brother of the heart, Bob Lanktree, in Phoenix. The following need-for-speed run through the Arizona night was unforgettable! He was an avid collector and builder of the Porsche car, and aircraft models, and all things 49er. In 1981 he met Maria Tapia through a fix-up by their mutual friend and Ryke s other heart brother, Klaus Gilchrist. He had seen her in numerous plays but had been too shy to make a move. They were married four and a half years later on Aug. 17, 1985. Son Liam arrived July 4, 1986, and daughter, Porsche, on April 15, 1988. Since he never remembered dates, he was always grateful his kids were so accommodating in their choice of birthdates. He claimed once, he was saved from a long life of hermitage by Maria, but struggled mightily with a thespian and teenage drivers. Because of his health issues he and Maria decided to leave his beloved Whitefish and move closer to health care in Kalispell in 2007. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles; and grandparents. Ryke is survived at home by his wife, Maria, son, Liam, of Kalispell, and daughter, Porsche, a senior in the nursing program at Carroll College in Helena. Also surviving in Whitefish is Ryke s mother, Allana Erekson, sister, Kris Erekson, and niece, Kenzie Erekson; sister, Kori Erekson; brother, Dirk Erekson; sister, Kim Erekson, of the Netherlands; and nephew, Tyler, in Connecticut. He is also survived by numerous in-laws and friends who will miss his graphic storytelling, opinionated and vocal discussions, and strategic game playing at family reunions. Cremation has taken place and no formal services are planned as per his wishes. A celebration of his life will be planned for next summer with a joyful need-for-speed run, where his ashes will join his father s and grandparents in Glacier Park. Ryke s last three years were a struggle with declining health, and he considered the angels on earth at the Kalispell Dialysis Clinic dear friends. The family suggests memorials to the National Kidney Foundation, www.kidney.com, which focuses on education and prevention of renal disease. Friends are encouraged to visit the Web site at www.buffalohillfh.com to leave condolences for the family. Buffalo Hill Funeral Home is caring for the family.

Ferne Lewis Cohen, 86

Ferne Lewis Cohen passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009. Our beloved Ferne was born on Jan. 21, 1923, in Rochester, N.Y. Ferne was a treasured wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by husband, Martin, of 64 years; son, Richard, of Whitefish; and son, Jeffrey, and wife, Renee, and grandchildren, Rivkah and Daniel, of California. Ferne graduated from Case Western University in Ohio and married Martin on June 7, 1945. Their first home together was in Santa Ana, Calif., where sons Jeffrey and Richard were born. While the boys were finishing high school, Ferne returned to Chapman College to obtain a master s degree in social work. She worked as an employment counselor for the State of California. From the start, the family was always outside, camping, skiing, hiking and enjoying the outdoors with their camper which was a life-long joy for Ferne. Traveling throughout our country and camping in our great national parks was a favorite. Her reverence for the environment led to her environmental activism which was no less important than her community activism. Ferne always nurtured her family s awareness of the environment and community. This awareness led her to a lifetime commitment of volunteer service. While living in southern California, she was active in Community Chest, American Association of University Woman and Sea & Sage Audubon Society. She continued her community service when moving to Whitefish in 1988, with Flathead Audubon, Glacier Orchestra, Citizens for a Better Flathead, Montana Society for the Blind, Temple Bet Harim and the Whitefish Library. She always had a welcoming smile to everyone she met and had a way of empowering others to see clearly and reach higher, whatever their goals might be. There will be a celebration of her life in January 2010.

He faithfully served as a director of the Salvation Army for some 40 years, he served several terms as a director of First Interstate Bank, he was a 55-year member of Rotary International and Kalispell Rotary s president in 1957, and later president of the Rotary Waterton/Glacier International Peace Park Association. He actively participated in the Flathead s various youth activity programs, both within school and outside school, and more recently received the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce Great Chief Award in 2001, recognizing his admirable character traits and the body of his community service. On a state level, he was very active in the promotion of Grizzly athletics at the U of M, and having earned his Eagle Scout award as a youth, he continued to serve the Boy Scouts of America in various community and state capacities all of his adult life and was recognized for that service with the Silver Beaver Award in 2002. Dan has always been a gentleman s gentleman. His family, friends, and even his acquaintances were always recognized by name and treated as individuals that merited both his personal acknowledgement and attention. Perhaps the hallmark of Dan s life, both public and private, was his commitment to longtime quality relationships that included integrity, trustworthiness, responsibility, humor, and doing what was in the best interest of others. His belief in Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and Lord and his worship and prayer life both guided and supported this attitude. Dan Jr. was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marilynne; and his sister, Kay Walterskirchen. He is survived by his children, Danlynne and husband, Kenneth Smith, Kimberly and husband, Steve Morgan, Lyndan and husband, Gene Langstaff, and Dan D.J. Korn; also, 15 grandchildren, Erin and husband, Greg Doyon, Amy and husband, William Jackson, Laura Smith, Kenneth Smith Jr., Jason Morgan and wife, Brechta, Stephanie Morgan and fiance, Luke Thompson, Daniel Langstaff, Katie Langstaff, Kristen Langstaff, Austin Langstaff, Karissa Langstaff, Kaleigh Langstaff, Jordan Korn, Aubrey Korn, and Braydan Korn; and great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Doyon, Hannah Doyon, Emilia Doyon, Elizabeth Doyon, Ean Morgan, and Selah Morgan. Also surviving are Dan s brother, Dr. James Korn, and wife, Norah; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, and a great host of very close friends. The void of Dan s wonderful influence, guidance and support will be helped by wonderful family memories and close contact with all his longtime friends. The family suggests memorial contributions in Dan s name be sent to Rotary International Foundation, c/o Rotary, P.O. Box 481, Kalispell, MT 59903; Salvation Army, P.O. Box 8357, Kalispell, MT 59904; University of Montana Grizzly Athletics, c/o Adams Event Center, Missoula, MT 59812; or Montana Council No. 315, Boy Scouts of America, 820 17th Ave. S., Great Falls, MT 59405. Condolences may be mailed to 1125 First Ave. E., Kalispell, MT 59901. Memorial services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at the Christian Center in Kalispell. A reception at the church will follow the service. Private family inurnment will be held later in the family plot at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery in Kalispell. October 11, 2009 2 a.m.

Iva Vera Waldenberg, 97

Iva Vera Waldenberg, 97, passed away on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, of natural causes at the Brendan House in Kalispell. She was born on March 23, 1912, in Belt, to Sam and Bette (Cook) Bright. Iva was raised in many small towns across Montana. In October of 1936, at Coeur d Alene, Idaho, she married William Waldenberg and they had two children, Sam and Judy. They lived in Great Falls. In 1973, she moved to Kalispell to be closer to her children and grandchildren. In her retirement years she gifted many hours through the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) program. She was even named Volunteer of the Year a couple of times, as well as the Senior Citizen of the Year in 2005. The highlight of her volunteerism was participating in the monthly birthday parties at Buffalo Terrace. Serving cake to the residents and working in the hospital gift shop was also a joy to her. She was also a lifelong member of the Royal Neighbors of America. She spent a large amount of her free time raising a large garden, raising chickens and being with her family. She cherished the moments when her brother, Frank, and sisters, Weese, Ruby and Bette Jane, were all together. She was very active in her parish, Risen Christ Catholic Church, as a Eucharistic minister and a volunteer. She was also very active in the lives of her two granddaughters, Shelly and Stacey, and her six great -grandchildren, Chase, Brooke, Haiden, Brady, Keatin and Kynzie, that she loved with her whole heart. Iva will be missed by her family and her smile and gentle touch will be forever in our hearts. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brother and two sisters. She is survived by her son, Sam Waldenberg, and his wife, Shirleen; her daughter, Judy Stack, and her husband, Tom; granddaughters, Shelly Christiaens and husband, Brian, and Stacey Mohl and husband, Dave; great-grandchildren, Chase, Brooke, Haiden, Brady, Keatin and Kynzie; two sisters, Ruby Waltari and Bette Jane Scott; as well as special friends, Lavine Heuscher and Marie Clements. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Risen Christ Catholic Church, with Father Rudolph Bullman as celebrant. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to time for the rosary at 7 p.m. today, Oct. 11, in the Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Great Falls. The family suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to Risen Christ Catholic Church, 65 W. Evergreen Dr., Kalispell, MT 59901; or to RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program), 160 Kelly Road, Kalispell, MT 59901. Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for Iva s family. Pamela Franks Quinn, 65

Pamela Franks Quinn, 65, passed away on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, while vacationing at Netarts Bay on the Oregon Coast. She was born April 24, 1944, to Paul and Helen Franks in Canton, Ohio, and raised on the family farm in Hartville, Ohio. She attended Kent State University. She raised four daughters, Deanna (Doug) Heal, Suzanne (Greg) McCrum, Kristin (John) Gallette and Jodi Walker. She moved to Montana where she volunteered and worked as an admitting clerk at Northern Montana Hospital. There she met and married the love of her life, Michael Quinn. Upon retiring, they moved to Woods Bay on Flathead Lake. She treasured her daughters and eight grandchildren who visited her and Michael often. They traveled to Arizona for three months during the winters because of her love of the sun. She enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage, Phase 10 with Ron and Connie, the machines at the Garden and sitting on the deck with Fran and Mary. She watched all kinds of sports with Mike and took pleasure in her home, her flowers and her friends. She adored her dog Sam. Pammy always made everyone happy and was a delight to be around. She will be missed by anyone who ever met her. She was preceded in death by her parents; and is survived by her husband, Michael Quinn; her daughters and grandchildren; and her brothers, Neal and Betty, Jim and Martha, and Tim and Mary Franks. Services for Pam will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Crossroads Christian Fellowship, 7465 Hwy. 35, Bigfork, with a potluck following at the Garden Bar on Electric Avenue in Bigfork. She spent her whole life teaching others the truths she learned from the Bible. Louise met the love of her life in Great Falls, and they were married Sept. 1, 1946. They bought a piece of property in Kalispell and raised their two sons here. She worked various jobs, among them the Kalispell Mercantile, Montgomery Wards and Orleys Restaurant; but her favorite job was cooking for family and friends. Margaret Peg Mullen, 92
October 7, 2009 2 a.m.

Margaret Peg Mullen, 92

Margaret Peg Mullen, of La Porte City, Iowa, died Friday of the complications of age. She was 92, having been born in Pocahontas, Iowa, in 1917. Peg was the middle child of two brothers, Howard and Bill Goodyear, and two sisters, Isobel Strathman and Louise Petersen. After graduating from Pocahontas Catholic High School she moved to Des Moines, Iowa, to work in various federal jobs. In 1941 she married Oscar Gene Mullen of Waterloo, Iowa, and in 1948 they moved to Cedar Township in Black Hawk County and settled on the original homestead of John Dobshire who emigrated from Ireland in 1852. Peg and Gene had five children, the second dying at birth. They farmed and Gene also worked at Rath Packing and eventually retired from John Deere and Peg worked at JC Penny and Santa Claus Industries. Peg stopped working outside the home in the early 1960s to raise her kids, and she was often involved at activities at Don Bosco High School of Gilbertville, Iowa. Peg and Gene s lives were forever changed when their oldest son, Michael, died in Vietnam in February 1970. Not being able to learn why Michael had died, as there was no official report and his platoon members had been instructed not to talk to them, Peg began a quest to learn what she could. Her journey led to trips to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., to testify before Congress in regard to amnesty, to late night calls from Vietnam veterans, to confrontations with elected officials and to the book about her quest, Friendly Fire, by C.D.B. Byran. Time magazine called the book the best nonfiction of 1976. The book became a television movie in 1980 starring Carol Burnett, Ned Beatty, Sam Waterston and Timothy Hutton, winning an Emmy for best drama. In 1976, Peg and Gene began going back and forth between the farm in La Porte City and Brownsville, Texas, and, after Gene died in 1986, Peg lived in Brownsville year round. She returned to La Porte City in 2002. She had many friends of many ages, cultures and races and politics. She especially loved her La Porte City bridge club friends, Iva Del, Bertha, Evelyn, Thelma and Ardie. Peg loved her peace and justice friends, LaRita and Sally. She loved Michael s friends, Martin and John. She was a woman of strong opinions and was greatly admired. Peg wrote her own memoir, UnFriendly Fire, which was published by the University of Iowa Press in 1995 and she then donated her papers to the Women s Archives at the University library. In 1998, Peg was inducted in the Iowa Women s Hall of Fame. At the age of 90, she received the Feisty Woman Award from the Iowa Women s International League for Peace and Freedom. Peg was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, and son, Michael. She is survived by her children, Patricia and grandson John; Mary DeJana and Rich, and grandchildren, Ryan, Megan and Kate, and great-grandchildren, Mia and William Liam ; and John and Jeanne, and grandchildren, Kellee and Patrick. Donations may be made to the Bosco System or the Iowa International Women s League for Peace and Freedom. Services are being held today, Oct. 7, at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Eagle Center, Iowa, with burial in the church cemetery. Condolences may be left with www.hagartywaychoffgrarup.com.

Evelyn M. Sullivan, 98
October 7, 2009 2 a.m.

Evelyn M. Sullivan, 98

Evelyn M. Sullivan, 98, our beloved mother, went to the Lord Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at Heritage Place in Kalispell. She was born to Albert and Olphina (Nelson) Runsvold on Dec. 17, 1910, in Hettinger, N.D. At age 3, she moved with her family to Kalispell. They lived on Ashley Creek where they would swim in the summer and ice skate in the winter. After graduating from Flathead County High School in 1928, she worked at the soldiers home in Columbia Falls as a cook. There she met and married Daniel W. Sullivan. They settled on a small farm on Middle Road and raised three children. Throughout the years she became an honorary grandmother to many children whom she took care of so the parents could work. They retired from the farm in 1989 and moved to Kalispell, and remained married for 66 years until her husband s passing in 1999. Evelyn was active with many clubs and organizations in her life, including the Royal Neighbors, Altar Society, Home Demonstrations, Busy Bees, and a 4-H leader. She was a member of the St. Richard s Parish and was active in the parish Women s Guild. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting and reading. She had also taken up oil painting and created many paintings that adorn our family s homes. Being of Norwegian heritage, she enjoyed standard Norwegian food. Some of her cooking creations have been passed down, becoming family gathering staples. Everyone that she met became her friend and she continued friendships with the children of her childhood friends. Always helping others through life s sorrows, it fits her character that she is the last of her siblings to pass. Even towards the end of her life she still had a mother s concern for her children whom she placed before her own worries. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel W. Sullivan; parents, Albert and Olphina Runsvold; five siblings, Clara Howell, Alma Parkinson, Henry, Norman and Donald Runsvold; son-in-law, John E. Wright; daughter-in-law, Beverly Sullivan; and grandson, Daniel Wright. Evelyn is survived by her three children, Rosalie Wright of Kalispell, Channing Sullivan of Whitefish, and Joann Sullivan of Missoula; three grandchildren, Kathy and husband Joe Rehbein of Bozeman, Connie and husband John Lehman of Missoula, and Lonnie and wife Kelly Wright of Kalispell; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one niece, Delores Young; one nephew, Albert Runsvold; and two cousins-in law, Phyllis Howe and Georgette Sullivan. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, at St. Richard s Catholic Church in Columbia Falls, with Father John Miller officiating. Burial will follow services in the St. Richard s Catholic Cemetery. A rosary service will be said at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Chapel in Kalispell. Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for Evelyn s family. You are invited to go to www.jgfuneralhome.com to offer condolences and sign Evelyn s guest book.

In 1965, Remy enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Reese Air Base in Lubbock, Texas. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged from the service in August of 1972. Following his military service, Remy headed west and began his 36-year career with the Forest Service. He started as a seasonal employee in 1973 while attending the University of Idaho. He graduated with a degree in forest resources and started working as a firefighter for the St. Joe Interagency Hot Shot crew based out of Clarkia, Idaho. In 1976, Remy accepted a permanent position with the U.S. Forest Service in Wallace, Idaho. His work later took him to Clarkia, the Philipsburg Ranger District, and eventually to the Flathead Valley where he worked for the Swan Ranger District as resource assistant until retiring in 2004. Remy was especially proud of his role in the development, permitting and eventual establishment of the Blacktail Ski Area on the Flathead National Forest near Lakeside. Throughout his career Remy was active in the fire program and continued to be a member of a Northern Rockies Type 2 Incident management team after his retirement. He was one of the longest serving safety officers for the U.S. Forest Service and had just completed an assignment on the Table Mountain fire southwest of Philipsburg. Indeed, Remy was around for so long his co-workers eventually gave him a symbolic stuffed dinosaur that was a permanent fixture on the dashboard of his pickup. His knowledge and experience with forest policy and recreational issues continued to serve him well in retirement. Remy worked as a part-time consultant on forest planning issues throughout the west for Ecosystem Research Group in Missoula. Remy thoroughly enjoyed himself in retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing and skiing, especially skiing with his granddaughters. He was a member of the National Ski Patrol at Silver Mountain, Idaho, and at Lost Trail and Discovery Basin in Montana. He was a member of the Society of American Foresters and a member of the Philipsburg Volunteer Fire Department. One of Remy s simplest pleasures was firing up the barbecue on a summer evening for a gathering of friends and family, enjoying their company, and treating them to the awesome views of the Flint Creek Valley from his deck. He is survived by his wife, Mary McDonald, of Philipsburg; his daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Todd Seiger, and their children, Abby and Caitlyn, of Spokane; his sister, Gabby, of East Aurora, N.Y.; his brother, Allen, of Cardwell; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Suzanne (Hathaway) Pochelon. A celebration of Remy s life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 6, at the Granite High School gymnasium in Philipsburg, with Rev. Rusty Craig officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Sydney Rae Cutler Fund, c/o Flint Creek Valley Bank in Philipsburg; or the Wildland Firefighter Foundation s 52 Club in Boise, Idaho. Services and cremation are under the care of the KT Riddle Funeral Homes, Philipsburg.

Garner M. Cavender, 77

Garner M. Cavender "joined the Heavenly Host" on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009. She died peacefully at home in Encore/Sunshine RV Park in Harlingen, Texas, while holding hands with her husband, Jim, and son, Daniel. She was born March 19, 1932. "Garner came into this world with God holding her hand and neither ever let go." She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Garner McKinney; her father, Percy P. McKinney; her brother, John Preston McKinney; and her sister, Mary McKinney Harris. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jim; three sons, James L. and Betty Cavender of Colorado Springs, Colo., John J. Cavender of Kalispell, and Daniel P. Cavender of Guerneville, Calif.; a sister, Louise McKinney Stough, of Corsicana, Texas; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces, and a host of friends. Garner had many highlights in her life. After being a stay-at-home mom and raising her family, she completed her education and was awarded a degree from the University of Wyoming. She was a member of the staff of Advocate Safe House in Laramie, Wyo., in its inception and when she found there was a dearth of material available, she wrote a book outlining philosophy, methods and resources. The Rocky Mountain United Methodist Conference had it printed and distributed to every United minister and church in Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. It served as the major -- often only -- resource for years. She and Jim served joyfully and thankfully as the clergy couple on United Methodist Marriage Encounter weekends for 20 years. Garner especially enjoyed being a part of the Wednesday Wanders hiking club in Glenwood Springs, Colo. She loved to travel, and she and Jim were full-time RVers for 11 years. Garner was a wonderful wife, a devoted mother, and a compassionate and supportive friend. This world is a better place as a result of her sojourn here and "heaven is a happier place since her arrival." A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, at First United Methodist Church in Glenwood Springs. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, at Hamilton Beamon Cemetery, Corsicana. In gratitude for outstanding care given Garner, the family invites those who wish to make a contributuion to CIMA Hospice, 5003 N. McColl, McAllen, TX 78504. Arrangements are under the direction of Heavenly Grace Funeral Home, (956)797-5500.
