Prep Volleyball: Glacier sinks Big Sky; Whitefish, Polson net wins

MISSOULA - Cami Mathison had 14 digs, Paige Latimer chipped in 26 assists and Glacier spiked Missoula Big Sky 25-13, 25-21 and 26-24 in the Western AA regular-season volleyball finale on Thursday.

"It was nice getting a little winning momentum going into next week," Glacier coach Christy Harkins said.

The Wolfpack wrap regular season play at 12-11 overall and 5-7 in conference. Glacier will have a postseason play-in game next week against an opponent to be determined.

"We did a great job passing tonight and Cami Mathison really played well," Harkins said.

Rachel Cutler led in kills with eight, McKell Bennett had three blocks and Lexy Boschee had two aces for Glacier.

RONAN - Kaitlyn Wehrli had 18 kills and Jessica Slaybaugh had 19 assists and four aces leading the Whitefish volleyball team over Ronan in Northwestern A action.

Whitefish won 25-12, 25-17 and 25-22 and improved to 4-4 in conference and 6-5 overall. The Lady Bulldogs sit third behind Libby (4-2, 6-3) and Polson (7-0, 11-0).

Heather Bailey had two blocks and Olivia Nagler led in digs with 11 for Whitefish.

Ronan's Taylor Irvine had four kills, Chelsea Vourdon had two aces and the Maidens fell to 0-7 and 0-10.

COLUMBIA FALLS - Breanne Kelley had 14 kills and two blocks and Nicole Davey added 12 kills and 16 digs as the Polson Pirates downed Columbia Falls.

Scores were 2 5-14, 25-13, 21-25, 25-19.

Brooke Cady had eight kills for Columbia Falls (2-5), followed by Kayla DeWit with seven kills, four blocks and five aces.

"The girls played really well that third game," said Wildkat coach Addy Hines.

Columbia Falls was trying out a new rotation Thursday night.

"I think we found it. You take a game from the No. 1 team in the conference and play right with them ... I'm pretty proud of (the Wildkats)," she said.

"It's probably the best volleyball I've seen these girls play," she said.

"Cassidee Skiles did a great job as a libero for us (15 digs)," she added.

Columbia Falls is home again tonight at 7 playing host to the Libby Loggers. It will be senior night for the Wildcats.
