HELENA - The Bozeman girls wasted no time in their pursuit of a fourth-straight state soccer championship.

Tess Hagenlock scored in the opening minute and the Hawks went on to drop Glacier 4-1 in the opening round of the Class AA tournament on Thursday.

Glacier's Maddey Frey came back with a goal to tie the match at eight minutes. Bozeman (10-2-1) went on to score just before half and added two more in the second to advance to today's semifinal game against Great Falls C.M. Russell (10-3-1).

Glacier (6-6-2) plays Missoula Sentinel (6-2-6) in an elimination game today at 11:30 a.m. The two teams split during the regular season.

"They felt like they played hard and that they did what they could out there," Glacier coach Paul Holmgren said of the Wolfpack. "We had a couple tough breaks. A couple things just didn't quite click like we would have hoped, but for the most part they played very well."

Bailey Pisk assisted Frey on the Glacier goal. Goalkeeper Patty Hughes had 13 saves in the game.

HELENA - The undefeated Billings West boys made the best of a bad field situation and scored three unanswered goals and beat Glacier in the opening round game of the boys state tournament.

"I think we came out a little bit nervous, and the result of that was our touch was a bit off," Glacier coach Ryan O'Rourke said. "That certainly caused us to struggle in some areas that we didn't usually struggle in during the regular season.

"West is such a solid team, so we didn't know what to expect in the beginning," he added.

Billings West (12-0-1) moves into the semifinals and plays Helena (9-3-2) today.

Glacier (8-6-0) faces Butte (4-8-2) at 9:30 a.m. today in an elimination game. Sean Peters made 13 saves for the Wolfpack.

There was more than half an inch of snow blanketing the field before the game and a tractor was brought in to clear as much away as possible.

As a result, "it turned into a slush game for the first 20-30 minutes," O'Rourke said. "It was actually pretty ugly in the first half."
