It is with great sadness the family announces that F.W. Lindy Smith passed away Oct. 17, 2009, in Kalispell. He was born at Wilson Siding, Alberta, Feb. 5, 1930, to Walter and Pauline Smith. Lindy had many loyal and devoted friends. He was kind and gentle with a natural ability to work with all animals, especially horses. As a competitive pistol shooter, he was a member of the Lethbridge Revolver Club, representing Alberta in the first Canadian Winter Games. He enjoyed his winter trips to the mountains, big game hunting on horseback with a close-knit group of friends. This same group also enjoyed many scuba diving holidays together. In the past he was devoted to stock car racing, winning numerous club championships in the sprint car events as a member of SAAR. Lindy was an avid skier and member of the Canadian Ski Patrol. He was a volunteer in broadcast relations at Mount Allen during the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. Lindy was proud to be awarded the First Honorary Life Membership of the CSPS. He later participated in the DREAM program on Big Mountain where he took great pride in giving disabled participants wings to fly. Lindy loved life and lived it to the fullest. He took great pride in his farming/ranching ventures, and was equally proud of his home on Flathead Lake. Thank you for being a committed partner, a great Dad and a devoted friend. Lindy is survived by his wife, Nancy; three children, Greg and Gloria Smith, and Linda and Kim Jensen, all of Lethbridge, Alberta, and Barbara and Bill Hensel of Campbell River, British Columbia; and two grandchildren, Justin and Kendra Jensen, and Travis and Shelley Jensen, all of Lethbridge; his sister, Donna Bishop, of Abbotsford, British Columbia; four nephews, Richard and Levon Hovagimian, and Randy and Rod Bishop; and a niece, Rhonda Nicholls. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Pauline Smith; and one sister, Geri Hovagimian. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Cornerstone Funeral Home, Mayor Magrath Drive, Lethbridge. A private memorial for family and friends will be held at a later date at the family home on Flathead Lake. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Lakeside Emergency Response QRU, P.O. Box 911, Lakeside, MT 59922. Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for Lindy s family.
