Kalispell hits new cold record

Kalispell saw another record-low temperature overnight Saturday.

The 6-degree reading at 7:10 a.m. Sunday obliterated a 22-year-old record. Before that, the coldest Oct. 11 temperature recorded here was 20 degrees in 1987.

And it rubbed shoulders with the coldest spot in Montana - Polebridge got down to 10 degrees below zero, putting the deep-freeze on its old record of 7 above in 1987.

All that followed Saturday's record-low 5 degrees, which wiped out the 16-degree record low set, of course, in 1987.

"As of now, this looks like about the coldest stretch we've ever had this time of year," National Weather Service Meteorologist Jeff Kitsmiller said.
