North Valley Music School is accepting auditions from students wishing to join the Flathead Valley Youth Symphony in the fall.

The youth symphony is open to middle and high school string, wind, and percussion players, which includes public, private and home-schooled students. Under the direction of Eric Holdhusen, students will hone their skills in a supportive environment where they are encouraged to explore music at a high level.

The deadline is May 25 to register and submit video auditions. Audition materials and instructions are available at northvalleymusicschool.org/flathead-valley-youth-symphony.

The fall session starts with a rehearsal on Sept. 16 and goes through Dec. 9. Rehearsals are held Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. in the band room at Flathead High School. Tuition is $75 per 12-week session. Scholarships are available.

Last year, more than 60 student-musicians ages 12 through 18, participated in the youth symphony coming from Bigfork, Columbia Falls, Kalispell, Somers, West Glacier and Whitefish.

“Performing in a symphonic orchestra at a young age is mentally stimulating and emotionally profound. Students will grow as human beings and musicians, all while creating lasting memories alongside their peers,” a North Valley Music School press release stated.
