Law roundup: Driver goes off-roading on lawn

| March 12, 2024 12:00 AM

An erratic driver in a spray-painted black and gray pickup nearly hit an ATM and reportedly went off-roading onto a lawn where he drove between apartment buildings.

Two men and a woman with a tattoo on her cheek were doing some shopping at an abandoned garage. They were reportedly seen putting items in shopping carts. The woman “couldn’t articulate” to Kalispell Police officers who owned the property or gave her permission to be there. Officers advised her of her warrants and that she did not have permission to be there.

A man reportedly had questions about getting security for a location and if police would train personnel on responding to “disturbances that may happen during services.” He was advised that law enforcement does not offer training “of that nature” for civilians. He was also advised to call 911 if problems arose and that “each individual is their own first line of defense.”

Someone allegedly broke into a woman’s house and hurt her cat in the process. She told the Kalispell Police Department the person “kicked through” the bathroom door and her cat had injuries that looked like cuts. She said several items were moved around and small items were missing.

A grandmother reportedly learned that her grandson’s friend knew who kicked in her door, leaving a small hole, and wanted police to warn the individual about coming onto the property because the owner banned them from the location. An officer relayed the message to the  friend’s mother.

It was a day for kicking in doors when officers received another call about a man in his 20s kicking in a resident’s door, screaming at their son, whom he knew, and physically attacking their husband, then took off, jumping a fence on Shady Lane.

A man allegedly saw an unsupervised little boy trying to hit cars with a branch and followed him, trying to keep him out of the road, and called the police. The child was reunited with his family.

Someone complained that they spoke to the parents of a 4- or 5-year-old who was naked and lying on the deck. The parents reportedly “were not concerned about it.” The child was clothed when officers dropped by for a visit.

Someone who worked at a location allegedly reported seeing a man walking on the bike path carrying a BB gun or rifle and confirmed he was not pointing it at anyone, yelling or “making a scene.” They were advised that it’s not illegal in Montana to carry a gun around.

A passerby and a neighbor reportedly saw a man with a shaved head push a woman, who fell down, and throw belongings in the street while two kids watched. Parties were separated, the incident deemed verbal only.
