Wolfpack Theatre stages quirky comedic drama

| January 4, 2024 12:00 AM

The Wolfpack Theatre Company’s Acting and Stage Class will present the quirky, comedic drama “The Language Archive” on Jan. 10 and 11 at 6:33 p.m. in the Wolfpack Theatre at Glacier High School.

Advanced tickets for the show are available on GoFan, Glacier’s online ticketing service, and at Photo Video Plus.  Any remaining tickets will also be sold at the door.  Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $6 for children, students and senior citizens.  To access the ticketing service, go to gofan.co and search for Glacier High School.  Each night of the production is listed for ticket purchase.

“The play focuses on the importance of communication, and how hard it is to communicate with others,” said one of the show’s directors, Greg Adkins. “It will remind the audience of the beautiful moments in life that we sometimes take for granted.”

The main character, George, is a man consumed with preserving and documenting the dying languages of far-flung cultures. Closer to home, though, language is failing him.  He can’t find the right words to serve his purposes at the most crucial moments of his life…most pressing…the preservation of his marriage.

The story balances moments of drama and comedy as it illustrates George and his wife, Mary’s unspoken love for each other as well as demonstrating how language can build entire worlds but, because of society’s inability to tame it, is often completely useless.

“The Language Archive” was written by Julia Cho and first produced on stage in 2009.   “This is a fairly new play and has never been done before in our program, " said Adkins.  “It’s as challenging of a script as any of the plays that we have ever produced in this class.  I am so proud of this cast and of their work and commitment.

Not only is this a first Wolfpack Theatre production for many students in this class, but it is also the first Wolfpack Theatre production for Emma Blonda, a student teacher from the University of Idaho. Although Blonda concluded her student teaching just before winter break, she worked diligently with the class on this production and is named as one of the directors.

“I'm excited to see all of her work come to life on the stage,” said Adkins.

The cast of “The Language Archive” includes Drew Crane, Andrea Chandler, Marissa Smith, Raven Hill, Toben Mallo and Zach Nases.

The technical crew includes Gabby Cantrell-Musson, Haley Hill, Isabelle McKoy, Noah Horn, Hunter Snyder, Ayden Mintz, Theron Wilton, Gibson Foshay and Zaden Stout.
