Wolfpack girls offense goes cold against Capital

Helena Capital used a pair of early runs to take control against a shorthanded Glacier team en route to a 47-30 victory in Western AA girls basketball Saturday.
Glacier’s leading scorer Reese Ramey missed her second straight game with an injury. Head coach Amanda Cram hopes to have Ramey back for divisionals, which start on February 29th in Butte.
Taylor Sayers scored 13 points to lead the Bruins, including three 3-pointers. Anna Cockhill added 11 and also knocked down three triples.
Cazzland Rankosky led the way with nine points for the Wolfpack, who were held to just 11 points in the second half.
“They shot lights out in the first half,” said Cram. “Defensively we could have been better. We are still at times looking for that core of girls that can finish out the game.”
Early on Glacier jumped in front with Noah Fincher getting the first basket of the game. Capital quickly took control though as a pair of threes from Sayers gave Capital a 15-8 lead after one.
In the second quarter Rankosky got the Wolfpack within two, 17-15, with a 3-pointer. The Bruins countered with a 12-2 run into the locker room, taking a 32-19 lead.
Out of the break both defenses stepped up, but Capital extended their lead to 42-23 on a basket from Riley Chandler.
In the fourth Rankosky tried to get the Wolfpack offense going, but Capital’s defense limited Glacier to just two baskets in the final frame.
“I am proud of our second half,” said Cram. “We told them the score was 0-0 and we held them to fifteen points in the second half.”
