Wolfpack Theatre stages Shakespeare/Broadway mash-up musical

| May 26, 2022 12:00 AM

The Wolfpack Theatre Company’s mash-up of 16th-century Shakespeare and 21st-century Broadway in the over-the-top musical comedy “Something Rotten” continues May 26 and 27 at 6:33 p.m. with a special matinee performance on May 28 at 2 p.m. in the Wolfpack Theatre at Glacier High School. Tickets, which are $12 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens, are available at the GHS Main Office and Photo Video Plus. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.

“Something Rotten” celebrates a history-twisting take on the origin story of modern musical theater. Set in the 1590s, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are stuck in the shadow of Renaissance rockstar William Shakespeare. Desperate to make a name for themselves by writing a hit play, these second-class playwrights begin searching for just the right angle to outplay Shakespeare. When the town’s oracle predicts that onstage singing and dancing will one day transform the theater, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s first musical. But amidst the scandalous anticipation of opening night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self … and all that jazz.

“Something Rotten” features grandiose songs and dance numbers and a wacky cast of irreverent characters who each enjoy their own special moment to shine during the production.

Created by Grammy Award-winning songwriter Wayne Kirkpatrick, and screenwriters Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell, “Something Rotten” was an instant crowd-pleaser, receiving several Best Musical nominations and hailed by Time Out New York as "the funniest musical comedy in at least 400 years.”

The cast of “Something Rotten” includes Avram Bingham, Conner Byle, Alexa Wilton, Kaelin Holt, Kerraline Bemis, Derek Smith, Lane McKoy, Bryce Crane, Aryana Allred,Gabby Musson-Cantrell, Ellie Fiala, Zaden Stout, Zach Lapke, Thomas Putnam, Calvin Casey, Emily DeWitt, Anya Rountree and Maeva Malcheslei.

The technical crew includes Fiona Fuller, Abby Garza, Mac Adkins, Marin Colley, Drew Crane, Haley Hill, Aysha McCubbins, Bridgett Meskis, Elle Plum, Elise Plum, Madilyn Sturmer, Kailie Owens, Andrea Chandler and Braden Wakefield.
