WHITEFISH — There weren’t many records that fell Saturday at the Whitefish ARM Invitational, but one of note was in the boys shot put, where Whitefish’s Talon Holmquist uncorked a monster throw of 53 feet, 6 inches – 10 inches farther than his previous best, 52-8, set last week in Columbia Falls.

Holmquist’s throw is second best in Montana, behind Cade VanVleet of Noxon, who threw 54 feet at the Seeley-Swan Invite last week. To add to his win in the shot put, Holmquist also topped the field in the discus with a throw of 144-1.

Behind Holmquist in the discus was Bigfork’s Braeden Guse, who threw 135 feet and helped the Vikings take the overall title with 151 points. Next was Columbia Falls with 98, and Whitefish with 82.

Bigfork got big points from Joseph Farrier, who won the javelin with a throw of 145-10, was second in the 100-meter dash and sixth in the discus. Elliot Sanford won the 3,200, Jack Jensen won the 800, George Bucklin leaped 21 feet, 1 1/2 inches to win the long jump and cleared 6 feet, 4 inches to win the high jump, Isak Epperly edged Whitefish’s Bodie Smith in the 110 hurdles, and the Vikings placed second in both relays.

Columbia Falls’ Jace Duval won a photo finish in the 100 over Farrier – his time was 11.64 seconds to Farrier’s 11.67 – and also placed second in the 200 and the long jump (his jump was 20-7).

Malaki Simpson continued the Wildcats’ success in the sprints by winning the 200 with a personal best 23.02 and coming in fourth in the 100.

The Wildcats also won the short relay, Hayden Mohr-Mead won the 300 hurdles and was sixth in the 110 hurdles, Finley Sundberg was fifth in the 200, Brock Fisher was third in shot put and Logan Peterson was second to Sanford in the 3,200.

Whitefish’s Gabe Menicke got close to his state-best triple jump Saturday (45-5 ½) – really close, in fact. Still, his 45-4 was more than enough for him to win the event. Menicke also cleared 5-8 for fifth in the high jump, and was the anchor leg for both relays. Whitefish won the long relay and was third in the 400 relay.

Libby’s Dawson Rose had the best pole vault of the day, 12 feet, and Browning’s Jeremy Bockus won the 1,600 with his best time of the season, 4:37.50.

The Lady Bulldogs topped the girls field with 151 points. Columbia Falls was next with 94, and Bigfork third with 84.

Whitefish speedster Brooke Zetooney zipped to first in the 100 but was edged by Columbia Falls’ Ally Sempf in the 200. Hailey Ells won the 400 with a personal best 59.83 and was second in the 100 hurdles, and Isabelle Cooke had a season-best time in the 800.

Maeve Ingelfinger won the 100 and 300 hurdles, and Whitefish won both relays. Zetooney was the anchor leg in both. Erin Wilde’s mark of 32-10 ½ in the triple jump won the event and is her season-best distance.

Columbia Falls’ Hannah Sempf was just shy of her season best in the pole vault Saturday, but clearing 9-6 was enough to win the event. Teammate Rebekah Walker cleared 8-6 for second.

Scout Nadeau of Bigfork helmed a strong showing by the Valkyries in field events with her 36-4 shot put. Teammate Inga Turner won the long jump and Zoey Albert had her best javelin throw of the season, 113-6.

Polson’s Halle Heninger won the 3,200 with a season-best time, 12:52.12. Libby’s Rylee Boltz won the high jump by clearing 5 feet, and was sixth in the 200.
