MISSOULA — Dean Miller had two hits and seventh-inning homer but the Glacier Range Riders fell 8-5 to the Missoula PaddleHeads on Friday.

The PaddleHeads took the lead early on Jayson Newman’s 3-run homer in the bottom of the first. In the third, Cameron Thompson hit a home run to right field and Newman capitalized on a wild pitch for a 5-0 Missoula lead.

Missoula built a 7-0 lead in the sixth off a Cameron Thompson run and a McClain O’Connor sac fly that scored Jared Akins.

Miller homered in the top of the seventh, and the Riders added four runs in the eighth from Brandt Broussard, Ben McConnell, Ryan Cash and Sam Linscott to make it 7-5, but that was as close as they’d get.

Akins scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth, and relief pitcher Sam Hellinger shut the door in the ninth to earn the save.

PaddleHeads (29-10) pitcher Austen Seidel threw six shutout innings that included three strikeouts before Dan Swain replaced him in the seventh.

On the mound for the Range Riders (13-25) was Austin Edwards, who struck out three and surrendered six runs on six hits through five innings.

Miller led Glacier with three RBI and a double.
