Texas artist with Flathead roots featured at Slow Burn Records

| July 7, 2022 12:00 AM

Slow Burn Records, Whitefish's new record store, is hosting Americana artist Sarah Johnson for a July residency. Johnson will be performing original songs as well as Americana covers every Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Johnnson’s music is marked by a quintessential talent for storytelling and here "forever easy to listen to” vocal performances.

While Johnson is Texas based, she has deep roots in Montana. She has spent most summers of her life visiting her grandparents who live in the Flathead Valley. Her song "Red Bandana" is specifically inspired by Brash Rodeo in Columbia Falls, where she has performed the last two summers. “Red Bandanna” tells a sweet, romantic story of a Texas woman who meets and falls in love with a cowboy at the rodeo. He gives her his bandanna to remember him by as he heads off to travel the rodeo circuit.

The video was actually shot at the Blue Moon Arena and around the Flathead Valley. You can find the music video shot on Instagram and YouTube.

"Montana has been such a creative inspiration to me — especially with songwriting,” Johnson said. Having a residency is an amazing opportunity for artists to build a consistent presence and community in a specific area, so I'm very grateful to Slow Burn for having me this July."

Slow Burn Records, located at 22 Spokane Ave., in Whitefish, opened in April and its grand opening is today, July 7, with a ribbon cutting at noon.
