Flathead grapplers sweep Butte, end regular season unbeaten

BUTTE — Flathead wrestling finished the season undefeated in duals on both the boys and girls sides with a sweep of duals in Butte Saturday.

The Bravettes topped Butte 51-36 and won every tournament they entered this season.

Anna Morrison (103 pounds) won an exciting match against Butte’s Kaylee LaPier that ended in a 13-11 decision.

At 120, Hania Halverson continued her stellar season with a pin of Taylor Burke, and Bella Arriaga also earned a pin of Burke in 20 seconds.

Lily McMahon and Payton Walker both pinned Maria Hanson of Butte at 126. Also earning wins were Alliyah Stevens at 285, Mykel Lee at 113, and Reina Kohler at 103.

“We are super proud of our Flathead girls team,” Flathead head coach Jeff Thompson said. “Our girls were undefeated in duals and our varsity girls won every tournament they entered this season.”

The Braves went 17-0 in duals this season by beating Butte in their last one of the season, 54-21.

Flathead won nine of 13 matches Saturday against a tough Butte squad.

It’s been a great regular season but now it’s time to put it all behind us and get ready for Divisionals,” Thompson said.

Davin Naldret started off the dual with a pin at 103, and Diesel Thompson (120) got his third pin in three days.

Dane Lake (126) also won by pin.

“Dane Lake wrestled lights out tough today,” Thompson said. “He is one tough freshman.”

Noah Poe-Hatten (182) lost his first match of the year in a 2-1 decision against Mason Christian. “Noah will be better prepared for him come state,” Thompson noted.

At 132, Logan Stansberry lost a heartbreaker by pin after leading by six points.

Cade Troupe (152) bounced back from sickness to win by pin over Butte’s Connor Konda.
