Columbia Falls places 16, takes second at Western A wrestling

FRENCHTOWN — Columbia Falls qualified 16 wrestlers for state and finished second in the team race Saturday, at the Western A Divisional meet.

Tyler Gilfry (120 pounds), Josiah Kilman (132), Justin Windauer (138) all won individual titles for the Matmen, who scored 265.5 points. The host Frenchtown Broncs won with 332, and Ronan was third at 219.5, followed by Libby/Troy at 126.

Columbia Falls’ Brandon Role was runner-up to Ronan’s Tristan Fisher at 170, Fisher scoring a 5-1 decision in the finals. Chris Rathjen added a third for the Matcats at 132.

Ronan had 20 wrestlers finish in the top eight and qualify for the State A meet next weekend in Billings.

Fisher was joined as individual champion by teammates Ridge Cote at 113 and Landon Bishop at 145.

The Chiefs’ Koy McAllister was runner-up at 126, as was Koda King (to Kilman) at 132 and Issac Rodriguez at 182. Max Morency was third at 285.

Libby’s top wrestlers were Jace DeShazer, who edged Frenchtown’s Noah Rausch 7-6 for the 182-pound title; Aydan Willamson, who lost 4-3 to Frenchtown’s Philip Herald in the heavyweight final; and Xavier Reatz, third at 113.

Browning had standouts as well, starting with 205-pound divisional champion Brendyn Whiteman. Beyond him there was Pita Fish, third at 103, and Quenton Campos, third at 138.
