Whitefish Mountain Resort opens for its 75th winter season today, Dec. 8, with a nearly full slate of terrain boasting ample coverage.

The resort plans to operate chairs 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 11, as well as the Bigfoot T-bar for its opening day. The lifts start spinning at 9 a.m.

Chairs 8 and 9 and the Big Easy conveyor carpet will not be open Thursday, but a resort press release said they could open soon.

The new six-pack Chair 4 lift from the Base Lodge to the summit is not ready for primetime, the resort release stated. Supply chain issues have slowed the construction effort. Skiers are advised to stay out of construction zones near the Chair 4 lift line.

The Big Mountain summit snow depth is at 50 inches, according to the Wednesday snow report. About a foot of snow has accumulated over the last week.

“As good as it is for early December, there are plenty of unmarked hazards and early-season coverage out there,” the snow report stated. “Off-piste on the lower mountain has plenty of sharks. It’s a long winter ahead, so take it easy out there!”
