COLUMBIA FALLS — Hailey Ells and Erin Wilde won two events each, and the Whitefish girls cruised to the team title at the Iceberg Invitational track and field meet Saturday.

Wilde, a senior, cleared a career-best 5 feet, 5 ½ inches to win the high jump, which is the best mark in Class A, and won the long jump with a leap of 16-9. That sits third in A.

Ells won the 100 meters in 13.22 seconds (third best in A) and the 100-meter hurdles in 16.81, and was second to Wilde in the high jump, clearing 5-2.

Add in a relay sweep and wins from Brooke Zetooney (400) and Maeve Ingelfinger (300 hurdles), and Whitefish piled up 161 points to 73 ½ for host Columbia Falls. Class B Eureka was third at 57.

Frenchtown edged Whitefish for the boys crown, 117-112, with Hamilton not far back at 106. Eureka was next at 41 points.

Zetooney’s 400 time of 1:01.38 leads all of Class A, and the top five placers now own five of the top six spots in the event at athletic.net. Ells now sits No. 2 in the high jump.

Another top mark came from Columbia Falls’ Siri Erickson, who won the 3,200 in 12:11.45, the second-best time in A.

On the boys side, Whitefish’s Talon Holmquist and Libby’s Cy Stevenson sit first and third in the shot put after Saturday’s action. Holmquist’s winning heave of 52-8 is two inches beyond his previous career best, which came Tuesday in Bigfork.

Only Noxon’s Cade VanVleet has thrown farther (54-0) this spring.

Holmquist also won the discus (141-2 ½) Saturday, and sits third in A in that event.

Bulldogs’ teammate Bodie Smith swept the hurdles races, and Deneb Linton led a 1-2-5 Whitefish finish in the 3,200.

Eureka’s Caleb Utter won the high jump, clearing 5-10.

Carter White of Frenchtown ran the fastest 100 in Class A, 11.05, and marked the longest long jump for all classes this spring: 22-6 ½.

Hamilton standout Colter Kirkland turned in the fastest 800 this spring, winning in 1:58.39, and his teammate Taylor Searle cleared 14-1 in the pole vault to lead all classes.
