Glacier drops pair to Helena schools

Glacier lost a pitchers’ duel to Helena Capital, then got out-hit by Helena High, dropping a pair of Western AA softball games at the Glacier fields.

Nyeala Herndon outdueled Glacier’s Ella Farrell as Capital won the first game 5-1; in the second game Brooke Richardson and Ashley Lamping had four hits each to lead the Bengals to a 9-3 win.

Herndon and Farrell each allowed four hits, though Capital took advantage of eight walks and seven errors on the Pack.

Herndon fanned eight; Farrell struck out seven, and just two of her five runs allowed were earned.

Olivia Gibbons brought home Glacier’s lone run with a single in the sixth inning.

Glacier led 2-0 early on Paishance Haller’s bases-loaded single in the first inning, only to see Helena up for good, 3-2, on Ashlyn Lamping’s 2-run double in the third.

The gap grew to 4-2 when Lamping hit an RBI triple in the fifth, then scored on a passed ball for her third run.

Richardson’s third hit was an RBI double in the sixth, and she hit a run-scoring single in the seventh. Glacier’s final run came on an RBI groundout from Emma Cooke that scored Gibbons, who’d tripled.

Gibbons also started on the mound for Glacier, and allowed four hits, two walks and three innings.
