A man exiting Logan Health’s addiction treatment center allegedly pulled a knife on facility staff after they refused to return his marijuana with his other belongings.

Anthony Starr Hopper, 39, faces an assault with a weapon charge in Flathead District Court following the April 2 incident. He is being held on a $25,000 bond in the Flathead County Detention Center awaiting a May 5 arraignment.

Security personnel at the treatment center told responding police officers that Hopper became upset upon learning his marijuana would go unreturned, court documents said. One of the security officers recalled explaining to Hopper that he needed a green card to get the marijuana back. At that, Hopper allegedly pulled out a knife fastened to his chest, court documents said.

A second security officer then drew his firearm, leveled it at Hopper and ordered him to drop the knife, according to court documents. Instead, Hopper allegedly secured the knife and walked away.

One of the responding police officers spotted Hopper remove a “medium straight blade knife from his shirt and place it on the ground” of the parking lot, according to an affidavit filed in district court.

Assault with a weapon carries a maximum punishment of 20 years with the Montana State Prison and a $50,000 fine.
