• APRIL SCHOTTELKORB, PhD, LCPC, RPT-S, of Kalispell, was presented the 2021 APT Play Therapy Research Award by the Association for Play Therapy (APT) on Oct. 16 during its annual conference in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The award acknowledges outstanding published original research that significantly develops, promotes, elevates, or advances the credibility, effectiveness, and acceptance of play therapy. The award was based upon Schottelkorb’s manuscript titled “Intensive Child-Centered Play Therapy for Children on the Autism Spectrum: A Pilot Study.”

Play therapy is a form of mental-health counseling by which licensed mental-health professionals incorporate the use of play when developmentally appropriate to better communicate with and help clients achieve optimal mental health.

APT is a national professional society formed in 1982 to advance the field of play therapy.Additional information is available at www.a4pt.org.

• THE BLACKFEET TRIBE and CONFEDERATED SALISH AND KOOTENAI TRIBES will each receive a $30,000 grant from the Montana Department of Commerce.

The Tribal Business Planning Grants are aimed at assisting Montana tribes with planning for business development and economic growth. The Blackfeet grant will be used to update the existing Economic Development Master Plan for land use evaluation. The CSKT allotment will be used to complete a CSKT Tribal Secured Transaction System with draft Uniform Commercial Code.

The Tribal Business Planning Grant program assists tribal governments and organizations to deploy comprehensive business planning strategies. Funds can be used for activities such as business plan development, market analysis, feasibility studies, physical business infrastructure planning, such as zoning and can be used to match other funding sources to accomplish business growth activities.
