HAMILTON — Zach Veneman pitched six strong innings in a laugher, and Jacob Polumbus hit a grand slam for Glacier in a slugfest as the Twins swept a Class A Legion doubleheader from the Bitterroot Red Sox Tuesday.

Veneman drove in four runs to help his own cause as the Twins won the opener 12-1; Polumbus’ bomb sparked a 6-run first inning in what became a 15-11 win in the nightcap.

In the first game Veneman drove in all the runs he needed with a bases-loaded triple in the Twins’ 5-run second inning. He allowed three hits and three walks in six innings of work, and struck out six.

Taylor Bryan’s second double of the game drove in one during another 5-run Glacier outburst in the seventh. Mason Peters hit a 2-run single in the sixth. Hayden Meehan and Bryan combined for five hits and scored three times each.

In the second game the Twins (27-8, 8-2 in the Western A) held leads of 9-1 and 14-7 against the stubborn Red Sox (11-25, 2-9).

Mikey Glass and George Robbins had RBI singles in a 3-run second for the Twins; Veneman got an RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fourth, and Hayden Meehan followed with a 2-run single.

Meehan got the win on the mound with 3 ⅓ innings of relief. He allowed five hits and four runs, and struck out one. Bryan ame on in the sixth to pick up a save.

Glass had three hits and three runs for the Twins, and Stevyn Andrachick scored four times, once on a double-steal with Veneman that made it 11-7.

The Twins next host the Ed Gallo Wood Bat Tournament beginning Thursday in Whitefish.
