Brave Brawlers run dual record to 8-0

HELENA — Four Flathead wrestlers won two on-mat matches Friday and the Brave Brawlers ran their dual record to 8-0 with wins over Helena High and Helena Capital.

Cade Troupe, Ryan Nelson, Noah Poe-Hatten and Gunnar Thompson all defeated two opponents while Flathead beat Helena 61-9 and Capital 43-21.

Nelson scored two major decisions at 182 pounds and Youso had a 4-1 win over Helena’s Justice Seamons and a major decision at 170. Troupe scored two pins, and Poe-Hatten had one.

“Youso and Nelson are wrestling at a different level than a month ago,” Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said. “Super fun to watch. Fin (Nadeau, who scored a technical fall and won another match by forfeit) looked good today — great movement and super slick.”

Capital proved challenging, surrendering just two pins (by Flathead’s Ethan Freund at 126 and Troupe at 145) and getting wins at 205 and 285 over Gaige Winter and Timber Richberg. The Bruins’ Carson DeRosier, a state champion, also handed Flathead freshman Anders Thompson his first loss. They were ranked 1-2 at 138.

“We had some battles today, especially in the upper weights with Capital,” Thompson said. “They got some horses up top with their big boys (Talon Marsh and Keaton Pouliot; Capital’s Noah Kovich didn’t wrestle at 285).

Flathead’s next action is Friday at Missoula.Both the Brawlers and the Glacier Wolfpack have duals with Big Sky and Sentinel. Glacier didn’t wrestle in Helena because of a COVID-19 quarantine.

Libby/Troy wins pair

LIBBY - Tucker Masters, Xander Spady and Aydan Williamson all won two contested matches to help Libby/Troy take down Corvallis and Browning in a pair of Class A wrestling duals.

Masters’ wins came at 182 pounds and Spady’s at 138. Williamson pinned both of his opponents at 285.
