The Madison County Public Health Department and Gov. Steve Bullock’s Office on Sunday confirmed Montana’s second COVID-19-related death.

The patient was a woman "in her senior years" who had direct contact with another positive COVID-19 case, according to the health department.

“I’m saddened to hear that a second Montanan has died from COVID-19," Bullock said. "No matter in which community we live, the impact of each loss of life has a ripple effect all throughout the state and serves as a reminder of how serious this disease is. Our hearts go out to the family, friends, and community of this Montanan.”

As of Sunday, Montana had 161 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including eight hospitalizations. Madison County reported four cases of COVID-19 on Sunday. Neighboring Gallatin County had 62. Flathead County had 8 cases reported.

A Lincoln County man who died March 26 was the state’s first fatality linked to the respiratory disease.
