Flathead Electric suspends disconnects and late fees

| March 21, 2020 6:40 PM

To support their members financially impacted by the novel coronavirus pandemic, Flathead Electric Cooperative will suspend disconnects and waive late fees effective Monday, March 23, until further notice.

Johnson said this decision is meant to provide temporary relief during a difficult time, and that the electric bills will still be due in the future. Members should expect continued delivery of billing statements, and electric bills will not be forgiven at the end of the disconnect suspension.

FEC is urging members to pay what they can to avoid falling behind on their account and facing a large future balance, as well as to allow Flathead Electric to continue covering co-op expenses.

It’s very important for members who are having trouble paying their electric bill to contact the co-op at 406-751-4483 to discuss a payment plan to remain in good standing until the national emergency subsides.

“We recognize the impact that this economic slowdown could have on our members,” General Manager Mark Johnson said, “and we will continue to evaluate other ways to support our members for the duration of this quickly evolving public health emergency.”
