Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks has decided not to renew its lease with the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation for the Elmo Fishing Access Site on Flathead Lake.

The agency has instead chosen to focus its recreation management efforts on the nearby Big Arm Unit of Flathead Lake State Park, according to a press release. The two entities have been working for months to finalize an easement at the Big Arm unit that will “ensure recreation at the site into perpetuity.”

The lease for the Elmo site expired on Feb. 29. The area, which was located near the town of Elmo on the western shore of Flathead Lake, is now officially closed.

Any questions about the site can be directed to the DNRC Kalispell Regional Office at 406-751-2241.
