The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday was investigating an apparent triple homicide and suicide in Olney.
Sheriff Brian Heino said a 41-year-old man, a 42-year-old woman and the woman’s 3-year-old daughter were stabbed to death in their home on Old Church Road. The woman’s eldest child, a 7-year-old girl, was found safe and she is in the care of Child Protective Services.
The call came in to authorities at about 7 a.m. Tuesday.
“It’s pretty bad,” Heino told the Daily Inter Lake.
A fourth deceased person, identified as the woman’s 39-year-old ex-husband, was found away from the scene. Heino said the man drove from the home and was later found about a half mile from the truck, dead of an apparent gunshot wound.
Multiple law enforcement vehicles were on the scene Tuesday afternoon in the rural community north of Whitefish.
Heino said all four deceased people were taken to the Montana State Crime Lab as the investigation continues.
