Braves bury Big Sky, 72-12

Nine pins, two decisions and 12 easy points off forfeits resulted in a lopsided dual victory for Flathead's wrestlers on Senior Night at the FHS gym.

The Braves crushed Missoula Big Sky 72-12 in Western AA action on Thursday to improve to 11-5 on the season.

Flathead collected pins at 119 (Caleb Piasecki), 125 (Suny Cheff), 130 (Jake Kinkle), 135 (Coty Piasecki), 145 (Jake Egley), 152 (Jeremiah Gaiser), 160 (Steel Hahn), 171 (Larry Francis) and heavyweight (Connor Thomas).

Caleb Piasecki and Hahn had the fastest falls, 27 and 48 seconds, respectively.

"We were pretty sharp the entire dual," Flathead coach Matt Owen said, "doing a lot of good things."

Flathead prevailed in the two tight decisions, as Jake Stueben pulled out a 7-5 overtime verdict at 140, and Josh Erickson won 12-9 at 189.

"It went back-and-forth," Owen said of Stueben's battle.

"Jake tied it up right at the end with a reversal and a two-point nearfall. He ended up taking him down in overtime to win it."

Big Sky won by pin at 215 and by forfeit at 105 for its scoring.

"All but one of the seniors got a win tonight," Owen said.

"It was a really good performance by the seniors."

Flathead wraps up regular-season action on Saturday at Helena Capital, 5 p.m., and Helena High, 7 p.m.
