Glacier wins crosstown match-up
Glacier High School came out on top after a showcase meet with Flathead High Friday evening.
The Crosstown Talkdown pitted two of the state’s top speech and debate teams against one another in a showdown and exhibition match. Glacier, which won nine of 12 event, finished the meet with 280 points; Flathead followed with 255 points.
While the event was a competition and a chance for both teams to flex their muscles after Christmas break, it was also a showcase for the community. Coaches before the meet said they hoped community members would take advantage of the chance to see the teams in action.
It was the last chance to see teams compete locally this season; they will compete this weekend at the Bulldog Invitational in Butte and then at the Class AA state tournament in Great Falls.
“I am really excited about the event,” Glacier head coach Greg Adkins said of the Crosstown Talkdown. “What a great way for us to get ready for the final month of the season. Going head-to-head with each other was not only a great exhibition for the community, but also remarkable competition for our team.”
Flathead head coach Karen Downes likewise praised the competition and said her team was also going to use the experience to gear up for the season’s final weeks.
“We really accomplished everything we hoped to with the Crosstown Talkdown,” she said. “We were using it as a warm-up for the rest of the season.”
