John F. Smith, 76

John F. Smith, 76, of Kalispell, peacefully passed away on Jan. 1, 2011, at the Forest Park Health Center in Carlisle, Pa.

He was born Nov. 4, 1934, in Newport, Pa., and was the son of Russell S. and Ruth Pearl (Bealor) Smith, now deceased.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alta (Jameson) Smith; a son, Robert Smith; and a sister, Grace Zaring.

Before retiring to Kalispell, John was employed by Keen Transport in Carlisle.

John served in the United States Army and was discharged with an honorable discharge and Good Conduct Medal in 1960.

He was an avid hunter and a member of the North American Hunting Club and National Rifle Association.

John is survived by a son, Douglas Smith, of Georgia; a daughter, Angela Smith, of Florida; a brother, James Smith, and wife, Bonnie, of Etters, Pa.; five sisters, Jean Cree and husband Victor of Newport, Pa., Nancy Frederick and husband David of Markelsville, Pa., Helen Smith and husband Charles Stake of Gardners, Pa., Betty Morgan of Camp Hill, and Mildred Meck and husband Ronald of East Berlin, Pa.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and -nephews.

A private memorial service will be held at a future date by his siblings. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of arrangements.
