Group hug ends a family squabble

Flathead County’s Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a fight that began between two brothers, and expanded to include both parents. The Hungry Horse man and wife claimed parental failures by one another after a 7-year-old boy was hit by a golf ball at the hands of his 14-year-old brother. The family matter reportedly ended with a group hug.

A 2:24 a.m. Wednesday, there was a report of more “golf-related” mischief. A Hungry Horse man reportedly heard glass breaking, and looked outside to see two unknown suspects breaking the windows out of his Buick Skylark using what appeared to be a golf club. The suspects escaped before law enforcement arrived.

A common Internet scam caught a Kalispell man off guard after he tried cashing a $3,500 check at a bank Tuesday morning. An unknown respondent to an Internet classified asked him to cash the check, keep $500 for a boat he was selling and send the rest back. In the end, no one received any money.

Checks were reportedly written from a stolen checkbook, the victim reported.

Someone tried, and failed, to open bank accounts using stolen identification near Montana 2 east of Kalispell.

A possible burglar entered a rental home on Lower Valley Road, but didn’t take anything.

A dispute between a man and a woman in Hungry Horse turned physical after both claimed ownership of a disputed lawnmower Tuesday night. The woman said she bought it; the man said he paid for improvements. The woman won, and the man was cited for assault.

A woman on West Reserve Drive reported the theft of a television that went missing after a verbal dispute with a disgruntled roommate Tuesday afternoon.

An Evergreen woman reported that her sister was missing as of 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. She had not been located as of midday Wednesday.

Kalispell Police officers responded to a reported theft of a rifle and scope from a vehicle in the 300 block of College Avenue at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Fifty gallons of gasoline were reported stolen on Third Avenue East North. Also, someone reported seeing a man attempting to siphon gas on the same street at 11:54 p.m. Tuesday.

A phone was reportedly taken from a vehicle at the intersection of 11th Street West and Fourth Avenue West Tuesday afternoon.

An alleged shoplifter fled a business in Hutton Ranch Plaza Tuesday night. Police were unable to find him.

The sound of a woman screaming was reported in the 800 block of East Washington Street after midnight. The reporting party called later to say the sound was coming from her granddaughter’s television.

Scary texts and music were reportedly being sent to a cellular phone, according to a report early Wednesday morning from Third Avenue West North.

A 24-year-old man was arrested for obstructing an officer after a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of West Idaho Street and North Meridian Road Wednesday afternoon.
