Leon H. Mick, 80

Leon H. Mick, 80, of Great Falls, a retired air traffic controller and U.S. Navy veteran, died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, of natural causes at Peace Hospice.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Victory Christian Center. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery with military honors. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home in Great Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Glenna; daughter, Patti Hopkins, and her husband, Robert; son, Gerald Mick, and his wife, Carry; four grandchildren, Jessica, Justin, Caroline and Ashley; and six great-grandchildren, Tyson, Jillian, Ayden, Colter, Rebekka and Liam.

Leon was born Aug. 1, 1929, in Great Falls. He was raised on the family farm in Portage. After serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, he returned home and married Glenna M. Wever.

Leon was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration from 1958 until his retirement in 1986 as an assistant chief at the Enroute Air Traffic Control Center in Farmington, Minn.

He spent the rest of his life enjoying his family and friends, both in Great Falls and Happy's Inn in Northwest Montana. He was a good man who will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Peace Hospice.
