Hellgate rallies by Flathead spikers

MISSOULA - The Missoula Hellgate Knights moved into first place in Western AA after coming from behind in the first and final sets to beat Flathead 25-23, 21-25, 25-15 and 25-22 on Tuesday.

"We played with our backs against the wall and just gave up those leads," Flathead volleyball coach Leon Wilcox said.

The Bravettes fall to 1-4 in league and 4-7 overall and are currently sixth in the West. Hellgate hiked its record to 4-0 in league and 9-2 overall, ahead of Helena, 3-0 and 7-1.

"We just weren't responding well and weren't stepping up and being aggressive," Wilcox said. "Hellgate was aggressive and they came out hard."

Hannah Sackett led Flathead in kills with 13 and aces with four. Jaimee Zorn had 20 of the Bravettes' 79 digs and Mary Allen chipped in 17. Alison Lunde led in assists with 31.

The Bravettes play at Missoula Big Sky, 0-3 and 2-7, on Saturday.

Stillwater improved to 10-0 overall with a 25-16, 25-14, 27-25 victory over Bigfork's junior varsity.

"Julia Bray had a great night at the net with nine kills out of 13 attempts and a block," Stillwater coach Dave Shawback said.

"Linnea Hashley continues to lead our offense with some great setting."

Stillwater returns to Montana Christain Athletic Assocation play on Friday hosting Flathead Valley Home School at 6:30. Stillwater is 2-0 in league play.
