One year later, Lex Hilliard didn't get the dreaded phone call again.

The Flathead High alum and former University of Montana star survived cut day in the NFL and remains on the Miami Dolphins roster.

Hilliard, who was waived on cut day last year, said he was relieved - but hardly relaxed - when not getting the call this year.

"A guy like me is always on the bubble," said Hilliard, who becomes the fourth-string running back for Miami.

Hilliard led the Dolphins in rushing during preseason with 165 yards.

Fellow Flathead alum Mike Reilly, a standout quarterback at Central Washington, was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Former Montana Grizzly safety Colt Anderson was released by the Minnesota Vikings.
