CUT BANK - It couldn't have gone much better for the Flathead Braves on Friday.
Flathead's first four boys came across the line first through fourth - with a total of 26 seconds separating first and fourth places.
Jesse Bennett was first (16:01), followed by Zach Perrin (16:02), Leif Castren, 16:03 and Alex Surynt (16:27). Hunter Schutt wasn't too far behind those guys - eight in 17:23. Andy Wilson was 10th (17:30) and Brett Harrison, 14th (17:49).
No team scores were kept.
"Times were good. Very good," said coach Paul Jorgensen.
"We should have three kids in the 15s soon," he said.
"Our top four kids were only 26 seconds apart. I'm real happy with the boys. We showed we had some pretty good depth," he added.
"The top four kids pretty much ran together. (Surynt) dropped back a bit in the third mile," he said. Bennett also took the lead in that final minal.
On the girls side, Hannah McFarlane was the first Bravette to cross the line, in seventh place (20:52), Sierra Maxwell was eighth (20:59), Kathleen Barth, ninth (21:09), Paige Bouma, 11th (21:29), Rose Byrne, 13th (21:46), Breanna Leggitt, 16th (22:02) and Cheyenne Cooke, 25th (22:26).
"Our girls are very young, but I think they'll improve a lot over the season."
The next meet for Flathead is the Flathead Invitational at Kidsport Complex. The first race is 11 a.m.
