Economic outlook show comes to town

| July 28, 2009 12:00 AM

A statewide series of midyear economic presentations kicks off Thursday in Kalispell.

The Bureau of Business and Economic Research with the University of Montana will offer a midyear economic outlook update on Thursday at the Hilton Garden Inn in Kalispell.

The session runs from noon to 1:30 p.m. and provides a special opportunity for Montana businesses and others to learn about the state's current and projected economic future, according to a news release.

"The recovery has not arrived yet, but it is beginning to come into view," said bureau Director Patrick Barkey, who will deliver the state and national forecast. "Every recession is different, and that makes each recovery different as well."

Economist Paul Polzin also will make a presentation.

"Over the past year, Montana has started to see some real effects from the national recession," Montana Chamber President and CEO Webb Brown said.

"Montanans, especially the business community, are interested to know if we have seen the worst in job losses and business down-sizing or if more bad economic news is on the way."

Thursday's Kalispell session, which launches the seven-city series, is co-sponsored by the Kalispell Area Chamber of Commerce.

A $20 registration fee includes lunch.
