WHITEFISH - Spencer Trawick struck out 11 and limited Kalispell to three hits as Mission Valley opened play at the Western A District American Legion baseball tournament Thursday with a 6-1 victory.
Mission Valley took a 2-1 lead after three innings in beating Kalispell for the third time this season.
"We just didn't get the hits going," Kalispell coach Pat Conners said.
"We left a few guys on base early. Our pitching and defense was good."
Tyler Linse went 3-for-5 to lead Mission Valley. He doubled twice and drove in two runs.
Mission Valley plays Missoula today at 4 p.m., while Kalispell and Kootenai Valley tangle in a loser-out contest at 9 a.m.

Missoula capitalized on three Kootenai Valley errors in the bottom of the ninth inning to score five runs and rally for the victory.
It was the first meeting of the season for both teams.
Byrton Guckenberg, 3-for-4, slammed a two-run homer to left field in the sixth inning with one runner aboard to give Kootenai Valley a 6-3 advantage.
