Man dies in boating accident

A Flathead County man was killed and his wife injured in a boating accident on Flathead Lake about 11:30 p.m. on the Fourth of July.

Deputy Coroner Dorothy Browder still was contacting family members by late Sunday afternoon, so she did not release the victim's name, age or town where he lived.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Game Warden Matt Heaton said the man's wife was in Kalispell Regional Medical Center, but he could not release her name or information on her injuries or condition.

Heaton said the accident involved two boats on the water about three to four miles east of Lakeside. Reports that one boat was operating without lights could not be confirmed.

Heaton said Fish, Wildlife and Parks wardens, Flathead County sheriff's deputies and emergency services personnel were on the scene shortly after the accident.

Heaton was unable to give further details, as investigation into the accident continues.
