The Whitefish Fire Department was paged out to what was reported as a half-acre grass fire in the brush and trees off Hodgson Road. The fire, which also was fought by a Montana Department of Natural Resources helicopter, was knocked down and contained in about an hour. The Evergreen Fire Department and West Valley Fire Department also responded.

Flathead County sheriff

Flathead County Sheriff's deputies were called to an area behind an Evergreen gas station after a man started bashing out windows with a baseball bat.

Fireworks were reported stolen from a stand off U.S. 93 near Lakeside. A 250-gallon water tank went missing on Jellison Road.

Lawn ornaments were taken from a residence on Fifth Avenue South in Hungry Horse and broken all over the road. As many as 10 mailboxes were damaged on River Drive in Hungry Horse.

An intoxicated man walking down the middle of U.S. 2 between Coram and Martin City and stepping out in front of cars got off the highway before deputies arrived.

Deputies received 182 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Kalispell police

A woman walking through Lawrence Park while talking on the phone allegedly was punched in the face and had her purse stolen. Kalispell police searched the area.

A Liberty Street woman told officers that a man gave her 10-year-old son a flyer about a missing dog, then punched him and made off with the dog he had.

Sunglasses and 30 CDs were stolen from a car on Fifth Avenue East. An Appleway Drive woman's roommate allegedly stole her rent and daycare money.

A Fourth Avenue West resident reported graffiti on their lawn. But it wasn't graffiti - it was spraypaint put down by telecommunications workers installing line.

Someone blew up a porta-potty at a Carnegie Drive construction site with fireworks.

Officers received 95 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Whitefish police

Whitefish police arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of DUI during a traffic stop at the intersection of Third Street West and Good Avenue.

Officers received 47 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Columbia Falls police

Columbia Falls police received 27 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Alarms

The Badrock Fire Department and Columbia Falls Fire Department extinguished a small brush fire on River Road.

The Badrock Fire Department and Three Rivers EMS responded to a motorcycle crash on Montana 206. The rider was taken to the hospital with hip pain.

Paramedics with Three Rivers EMS responded to Sixth Avenue West in Columbia Falls to treat an 18-month-old choking. The child was taken to North Valley Hospital.
