The ALERT helicopter was dispatched about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada to respond to a 4-year-old boy who was the victim of a near-drowning.

The boy, however, was taken by ground ambulance to a hospital in Cardston, Alberta.

Flathead County sheriff

A man and woman allegedly broke into a Shady Lane acquaintance's home through the window. The resident called Flathead County Sheriff's deputies because he wanted them gone. The woman later returned, and deputies were called back to keep the peace while she collected some things.

The window in a door to a Jellison Road home was shot out. Items were stolen from a residence on Ridgewood Drive.

A 6-year-old left in a car on Grand Drive in Bigfork got out and started crying. Deputies tracked down the parents.

No one was injured in what was reported as a head-on collision at the intersection of U.S. 2 and Montana 40.

Someone outside a casino on U.S. 2 in Evergreen told officers a man pushed his wife and then went inside.

A 17-year-old girl running with her dog outside Columbia Falls was approached by a coyote. Her dog apparently also was scared.

Deputies received 161 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Kalispell police

Kalispell police were called to a Center Street business after an elderly man and woman were spotted hitting each other. Turns out she has dementia, and he was trying to get her into the car.

Officers separated a teenage couple arguing outside an East Idaho Street gas station.

A 40-year-old man involved in a fight on Fourth Avenue West was arrested for assault. Officers were back at the residence an hour later because a woman in the back yard was screaming. She apparently was upset her husband got arrested.

Fireworks complaints were made on Seventh Avenue West, 11th Street West, and off U.S. 93 South.

A woman at a hotel on U.S. 93 South told employees she needed help because men were following her.

Two youths allegedly trying to break into a car on Fifth Avenue East were arrested for violating curfew.

Sprinkler heads were broken off in a senseless act of vandalism at a Second Street West school.

Officers received 83 calls for service between 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Whitefish police

Whitefish police arrested four Canadian youths for possession of alcohol at an apartment complex on Wisconsin Avenue.

A 19-year-old man was arrested for family member assault during a disturbance on Fourth Street East.

Officers received 54 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Columbia Falls police

Columbia Falls police 21 received calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Alarms

The Columbia Falls Fire Department extinguished a smoldering hay stack on Halfmoon Drive.

The Evergreen Fire Department extinguished a half-acre grass fire on Addison Square. Firefighters were back to extinguish it a second time after it flared up about two hours later.

The West Valley Fire Department extinguished a grass fire on Lost Farm Lane.

The Evergreen Fire Department responded to a crash Wednesday morning on Springcreek Drive.
