Flathead second, Glacier third at Bozeman speech

In their final tune-up before the state meet, Flathead and Glacier speech and debate teams finished in the top three at the Bozeman Hawker Invitational over the weekend.

Flathead finished second in the team sweepstakes with 133.5 points and Glacier was third with 111.5. The host school won the tournament with 171.5 points.

The Bozeman event was the final meet before the state tournament Jan. 30-31 in Billings.

"Though we were disappointed at coming in behind Bozeman again, we have confidence that this team has everything it will take to win a state championship," Flathead head coach Kala Lougheed said.

According to Glacier coach Greg Adkins, "We had a solid tournament. Not quite enough balance and depth to actually win the tournament and catch Bozeman, but I am encouraged by our development this season. I like our momentum as we head to the state tourney."

Glacier was led by first-place winners John Patrick, Ariel Berg and Kyle Schmauch.

Flathead first-place finishers were Tess Barker, Jonathan Watkins, Cailin Rogers, Katie Hoag and Casey Brown.
