Kelley lifts Pirates over Chiefs

POLSON - Ryan Kelley hit a 10-footer with 15 seconds remaining to give Polson a 50-48 Northwestern A boys basketball victory over rival Ronan on Friday.

Ronan's Justin Dustybull then missed a trey from the 3-point line at the buzzer.

Kelley finished with six points as Polson improved to 4-2, overall, 2-0 in league play.

Kyle Bagnell led a balanced Polson offense with 15 points. Waylon Michel and Tim Rausch both finished with 11.

Ronan, 4-2 and 0-1, was led by Dallas Cordier's 13 points.

Polson hosts Columbia Falls today at 6:30 p.m.

WHITEFISH - Aaron Tkachyk tallied 17 points and Colt Idol 10 as Whitefish cruised past Eureka in a nonconference contest.

Whitefish, 3-4 overall, led 18-7 and 37-14 after the first two quarter stops.

"We came out and played better, more consistent," Whitefish coach Eric Stang said.

"We still have a lot of improving to do, but there were a lot of things out there tonight we can build on."

Josh Backer and Connor Silliker pulled down nine rebounds each for the Bulldogs.

Ryan Holder paced Eureka with 15 points.

Whitefish plays at Flathead today, 6:15 p.m., while Plains visits Eureka, 6.

LIBBY - Kate Klundt scored 11 of Whitefish's 13 points in the second quarter as the Bulldogs improved to 2-5 overall.

Eureka, 2-4, was down five points heading into the fourth quarter.

Klundt finished with a game-high 26 points. Teammate Olivia Nasler added 12.

For Eureka, Steph Vogelman led the way with 12 points. Maria Newell did not reach double-figure scoring for the first time this season. She totaled eight.

"Tayler Holder played pretty good defense, led us with three assists," Eureka coach John Hammond said.

"Auna Lawler did a good job at point guard."

Whitefish plays at Flathead, while Eureka entertains Plains. Both games begin today at 4:30 p.m.

LIBBY - Kelsey DeWit tossed in 14 points and Alyssa Ladenburg and McKenzie Reeve both added 11 as Columbia Falls upended Libby in Northwestern A play.

Columbia Falls, 2-4 and 1-0, led 32-25 heading into the fourth period.

Libby, 3-3 and 1-1, was led by Jackie Mee's 16 points.

Libby hosts Ronan tonight at 8, while Columbia Falls hosts Polson at 6:30.

POLSON - Polson pulled away from rival Ronan in the final eight minutes for the nine-point Northwestern A victory.

Polson, 3-3 and 2-0, was led by Nicole Davey's 10 points and eight rebounds. Breanne Kelley was next with nine points and seven rebounds.

Kaylee Larson tallied 12 points for Ronan, 0-5 and 0-1.

Polson travels to Columbia Falls today for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
