Lori Smithwick-Hann, a health-enhancement teacher at Glacier High School, recently was named the state's Health Enhancement Teacher of the Year by the Montana Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

She has served on the board for the association and received its Striving for Excellence Award in 1992. She also helped create the state's assessment standards for health enhancement.

Smithwick-Hann has taught for 33 years - 31 at Flathead High School and two at Glacier.

She especially is proud of her "Shake and Bake" class, the first cross-curricular class in Kalispell Public Schools. It combines the family and consumer science department and the physical education department.

Smithwick-Hann also is proud of her aerobic fitness class, which she has taught for 25 years.

She will offer two sections of the class this fall because it is so popular.

Smithwick-Hann has been involved with Flathead CARE, a drug and alcohol awareness program.

She also has coached and volunteered for many community events in and around Kalispell.
