Mariners advance in state tourney play

THREE FORKS - Mission Valley moved another step closer to playing for a championship on Saturday, stopping Tri-County 5-3 in loser-out action at the Class A American Legion state baseball tournament.
Xavier Morigeau went the distance on the mound for the Mariners, and Tim Rausch, 2-for-5, homered to carry the offense.
Mission Valley (39-26) has won two straight since losing its tournament opener, 3-1 to Laurel on Thursday.
Mission Valley rolled over Livingston on Friday, 16-4.
Mission Valley plays Laurel today at 4 p.m.
