Polly Elizabeth (Gilham) Huser, 88

Polly Huser, 88, passed away July 1, 2006, in Silverdale, Wash., at the Clearbrook Inn.

She was born on March 25, 1918, in Townsend. Her mother and father, Ralph and Carrie Gilham, lived in Townsend where Ralph was a mining engineer for the copper mines. Polly graduated from Missoula High School where she lettered in tennis. She graduated from the University of Montana in 1939 with a degree in business.

While at the University, she followed in her mother's footsteps and pledged Kappa Alpha Theta. She also met her husband, Stanley Huser, the handsome independent red head from Whitefish, while in school. They were married in November of 1941. Polly remained in Montana while Stanley was serving in the Pacific as a Seabee. Their first daughter, Karen, was born in 1943. After the war, the family moved to Kalispell. A second daughter, Carol, was born in 1948.

Polly and Stanley shared a love of photography, spending many hours searching for the perfect light and scene in Glacier National Park and the Flathead Lake area. This love of photography continued after their move to Bremerton, Wash., in 1958. They were longtime members of F67 camera club. They also shared a love of teaching; Stanley, a special education teacher at Dewey Jr. High, and Polly, a first grade teacher .

Polly was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a teaching sorority. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Polly is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jay and Karen Cook of Renton, Wash.; her daughter and son-in-law, Bob and Carol Mansfield of Clackamas, Ore.; two grandchildren, Erik and Heather Cook of Bothell, Wash., and Carrie Mansfield of Clackamas; and two great-grandchildren, Katherine and Rachel.

Interment services will be noon, Sept. 19, at Glacier Memorial Gardens. All friends are invited to join the family for this ceremony.
