Bravettes second in volleyball tourney

GREAT FALLS - Flathead finished second at the Electric City Invitational volleyball tournament on Saturday.

Billings Senior defeated Flathead 25-14, 25-17 in the title match.

"I saw improvement every day, every match, so I was happy with that," said Flathead coach Christy Harkins.

"We played today without Chelsea Vaudt (middle hitter). She's usually our kill leader and blocking leader, so we had a lot of adjustments to make without her."

Vaudt sprained an ankle during Friday's pool play at the tournament. The Bravettes, with a 10-4 record, finished second in their pool.

"The kids did a great job filling in (for her) with the different rotations," said Harkins.

"Some kids were stepping into new positions today and we still did well. That was huge for us."

Harkins said Emily Hashley replaced Vaudt in the middle "and really stepped up."

Flathead defeated Billings West 22-25, 25-23, 25-14 in the semifinal round on Saturday and opened with a 31-29, 17-25, 25-16 victory over Lewistown in the quarterfinals.
