Braves face another big test

No. 1 Flathead hosts No. 5 Helena tonight at Legends Stadium

The big games just don't stop.

The Flathead Braves (5-1, 5-1) fresh off their 21-14 win over then No. 1 Butte, take on the team Flathead head coach Grady Bennett referred to last weekend as the hottest team in Class AA - the Helena High Bengals (5-2, 5-2).

That's the new No. 1 (Flathead) versus No. 5 (Helena High) in the state.

Game time is 7 p.m. at Legends Stadium.

"It's one of those games I don't think a fan wants to miss," Bennett said.

"This could be a dandy - two teams with a lot of offensive firepower, both are pretty hot. It has the makings of one of those games that could be a lot of fun to watch," he said.

Fans should expect high octane.

Helena High outscored Missoula Sentinel 42-7 last weekend.

"One thing Tony (Arntson, Bengals coach) does … they give you a lot of different sets. He tries to come out and give you lots of looks until he finds something.

"You're going to see it all," he said.

"They're always a challenge to prepare for," Bennett said.

The Bengals have "a few players who will definitely play college football next year," Bennett said.

Three that he mentioned were running back Eron Krpan, wideout/running back Josh Stuberg and quarterback/outside linebacker Ryan Fetherston.

But, on the Flathead side of things, Bennett feels pretty good about where the Braves are as well.

"I think we are making strides in every area. We want to be marked as a team that gets better every week. You look across the board and I think that's happening. Our offensive line - I thought during the Butte game, they just controlled the line of scrimmage down the stretch," Bennett said.

Offensively, against the Bulldogs' No. 1-ranked defense, quarterback Brock Osweiler completed 68 percent of his passes (23-for-34 for 235 yards), the Braves had 162 rushing yards and they minimized their penalties.
