The Flathead County Sheriff's Office and the Kalispell Police Department investigated suicides that happened in public.

The Sheriff's Office took a call Wednesday morning that led to the discovery of a man hanging from a tree in the middle of the large cliffs on the east face of Lone Pine State Park southwest of Kalispell.

Deputy coroner Ernie Freebury said the local man, in his 20s, probably had been there for about a week. There are no signs that the death was the result of foul play or an accident, Freebury said.

The man's name was withheld until his relatives could be notified.

Flathead County Search and Rescue members and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks wardens helped the Sheriff's Office in rappelling the dead man's body down the face of the cliffs.

On Tuesday evening, Kalispell police had to screen from public view the scene of a man's suicide on 10th Street East.

David Larsen, 47, apparently shot and killed himself on the city boulevard.

The department's Major Crime Unit processed the scene. They concluded that Larsen took his own life.
