Emeralds start hot in home tourney

The Glacier Emeralds 16-U girls softball team went 3-0 in pool play at the Glacier Emeralds Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Conrad Complex to advance to today's single-elimination round.
Glacier beat Havre 19-1 Friday to start tournament play. Meagan Hash allowed five hits and struck out three batters to earn the win.
Lindsay Ingram went 3-for-3 with two doubles and five RBIs while scoring four runs.
Julie Robertson was 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored. Cori Hindoien went 2-for-3 while scoring three runs and driving in four more.
In their first game Saturday, the Emeralds beat the Butte Sparks 8-0. Hindoien started at pitcher and earned the win by scattering three hits and recording four strikeouts. Courtney Sverdrup relieved Hindoien to preserve the shutout.
Glacier used a balanced offensive attack against Butte. Ingram, Kaemym Meager, Robertson and Hindoien all went 2-for-3 at the plate. Hindoien had three RBIs and Meager drove in two runs. Kendra Bennett was 1-for-3 with a triple.
The Emeralds finished play Saturday by beating the Spokane Venom 16-0 behind Sverdrup's complete-game one-hitter.
Hindoien came up big at the plate again, going 3-for-3 against Spokane with two doubles and two RBIs.
Ingram and Bennett each went 2-for-2 and Kalin Lingle was 1-for-2 with a triple. Sverdrup helped her own cause, going 1-for-2.
The Emeralds play the Calgary Illusion at 9:15 this morning.
