Flathead County Sheriff's Office

| July 5, 2006 1:00 AM

A search was launched after midnight Tuesday for a girl who went camping in the Jewel Basin alone and then was scared when she heard coyotes around her.

She called 911 - the only number her cell phone could reach - and asked the Flathead County Sheriff's Office to call her friends and send them up to her with a gun. The problem was, two of her friends didn't know where she was and the other one is only 16 years old and had no way to get to where she was on Mount Aeneas. The girl said she also felt an asthma attack coming on.

At 1 a.m., members of Flathead Search and Rescue and rescue leader Tom Snyder of the Flathead County Sheriff's Office agreed to go find the girl on ATVs. She was found at about 4 a.m. and decided to sleep the rest of the night in the comparatively tame confines of her vehicle.
