Gold, Gillum win 4th of July golf tourney

WHITEFISH - Josh Gold of Kalispell and Kelly Gillum of Fort Collins, Colo., were wire-to-wire winners at the 70th annual 4th of July Golf Tournament at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.
Gold closed with a 72 on Saturday, the final day, finishing the three-day event with a 210 total.
Gold's best tournament round was on opening day when he carded a 68. He followed that Friday with a 70.
Gillum was a co-leader on the first day, but pulled away after that. Gillum shot 74-72-67-213 to coast to a 12-shot victory.
Robb Bergeson of Billings, used back-to-back 69s to climb back into the hunt and placed second for a second straight year. He carded a 74 the first day to finish with a 212 total.
Jasi Acharya of Missoula, who showed her consistency by shooting 75 each day, finished second to Gillum with a 225 score.
Darah Newell of Helena, who shared the first-day lead with Gillum, finished fourth, 74-81-75-230.
Jason Johnstone, 70-75-73-218 of Havre finished third.
Kalispell's Rob Logsdon, a former high school state golf champion for Helena Capital, placed fifth, 76-69-77-222.
Whitefish's Jennifer Orcutt also finished fifth, 77-78-76-231.
